We are a large running club based in Ashbourne, Derbyshire with currently around 100 active members. The club has runners of all abilities - from recreational runners looking to improve their fitness through to those that run marathons and ultras. We regularly meet for informal training runs in the area and take part in local races. There is also an active off road/fell running group for those who like to run off the beaten track.

Training Runs

The club meets every Tuesday at 7pm. We used to meet at the Leisure Centre but since restarting after Coronavirus, we have been meeting athe Trail hire car park - please check emails or the Facebook group before coming along. We usually split into 2 groups depending on who comes along:

Group A will run at a steady pace and at the very least, run the base route advertised on the weekly email
Group B will run the base route and all hub sections / extensions highlighted on the map

As a rough guide, we estimate Group A will run between 9-11 mins per mile and Group B between 7-9 mins per mile.

There are stops on each route and the hub sections ensure that the runners stay together and in both groups, there is the opportunity to incorporate some interval training or just have a steady run.

During the summer months (April-Oct) we have the option to enjoy the local area with many of the runs off road and we also have an "Out of Town" run once a month. In winter the runs are mainly confined to the footpaths around the town that have ample lighting. We also try to have a special run once a month during the winter, ranging from Treasure Hunts to Orienteering. Routes are emailed in advance.

‘Special’ Tuesday Runs: The Club tries to have a ‘special’ Tuesday night run once a month to add variety. In the Winter, the run has to be around Ashbourne and include hill training, speed reps and the Bleep test. In Summer, the Club arranges with a pub in one of the local villages and runs from there – with the option for members to stay and eat afterwards.

Come along for a few runs and see if the club is right for you before you decide to join. Annual membership is £22 for adults. When you are ready to join please complete the membership form and email it to us or bring it along to a Tuesday evening run.

As well as running with like minded people in a beautiful part of the country, membership also gives you

  • Reduced entry fees for many races
  • Regular combined runs and social events
  • Competition in the club championships
  • Athlete registration with England Athletics
  • Third party insurance cover when running with the club
  • The opportunity to have the club’s place in the London Marathon (conditions apply)

Junior Members

Young persons between the ages of 12 and 17 years are most welcome as junior members of ARC. Whilst every effort will be made to ensure their safety, the club cannot be held responsible for their safety, and the parent / guardian’s acknowledgement of this is required by signing the membership form.

We do not allow runners under the age of 15 to attend club training runs without a parent or other responsible adult to run with them for the whole run.

During training runs, junior members aged 15 to 17, running without a parent or other responsible adult must follow the run leader and respond to any reasonable instruction given. Instructions will always be given in the best interest of the group or individual. In the event of a dispute over an instruction, the club committee’s decision is final. Failure to observe this rule will lead to termination of membership.
