Superb Result for Ashbourne Running Club

High Peak Relay 2008

On Sunday 9th November Ashbourne Running Club fielded two teams in the annual High Peak Relay Race, one of the largest relay races held in the area, attracting teams from all over the midlands.  The race comprises five stages each way along the High Peak Trail between Cromford and Hurdlow over a total distance of thirty five miles, this year in cold, blustery and often wet conditions.

The Men’s team finished in an excellent fifth place overall out of a total of forty teams, easily beating their previous best placing of ninth overall, in the process beating some notable teams including Derby Triathlon Club, Sheffield Road Club North Derbyshire Road Club and Nottingham Athletics Club.  The Ladies team finished twenty eighth, and a highly creditable fourth all ladies team.

The Mens tem comprised; Martin Stocks, Ian Millward, Paul Mannion, Jeremy Sanders, Howard Winbow, Adam Rollitt, Mark Spencer, Simon Fisher, Andy Williams and Robin Mitton.

The Ladies Team comprised; Caren Coonan, Liz Godfree, Emily Sanders, Heather Poleglass, Helen Armstrong, Nicola Spencer, Jackie Wibberley, Rosemary Britton, Zoe Fewtrell and Cara Spencer.



The Ashbourne Running Club meets at the Leisure Centre at 7pm on Tuesday evenings, for a run of between 6 and 8 miles, and caters for a wide range of abilities from steady social runners to regular competitive runners.  We also on occasions run events starting at other locations particularly in the summer.  So if anyone is thinking of coming along please check this website or contact a club member.
